Allen Iverson will not return to the team this season according to team president Ed Stefanski. Iverson has been dealing with his four-year-old daughter's undisclosed illness of late. "After discussing the situation with Allen, we have come to the conclusion that he will not return to the Sixers for the remainder of the season, as he no longer wishes to be a distraction to the organization and teammates that he loves very deeply," Stefanski said. "It has been very difficult for Allen and the team to maintain any consistency as he tries to balance his career with his personal life." Iverson averaged 13.9 points and 4.1 assists for the 76ers in 25 games this season.
"Dalembert, who played with Iverson in both stints, said A.I. was not the same player who once terrorized the opposition. But Dalembert also noticed a more reserved, humbled Iverson who just wanted to fit in instead of dominating the ball or making splashy headlines with controversial or selfish actions.
"He was focused, he was being a leader," Dalembert said Monday night. "It was a completely different Iverson. The role we needed him to play, he was doing it. He understood what he needed to do for the team and he came in and did it."
The Sixers have been awful with or without Iverson. They are 22-37 after a 126-105 loss Monday night to Orlando. They were on a nine-game losing streak when Iverson made his debut on Dec. 7.
Now, the global superstar who popularized "talking about practice," might be talking about retirement. This time for good."
Victoire des Sixers à Golden State
"It's over. The tears. The jogging out to midcourt at the Wachovia Center to kiss the floor to raucous, rabid applause. The crackling voice, filled with gratitude and appreciation for an organization that said, 'You can come home again.' It all ended for Allen Iverson
yesterday afternoon when the 76ers announced that, arguably, the greatest player in franchise history would be out 'indefinitely' because of his daughter's illness — undoubtedly ending The Answer's career in Philadelphia. It wasn't supposed to end this way, of course. Not in Philadelphia. Not for Iverson, and not in the way he is departing.
We can listen to Ed Stefanski, the Sixers' president and general manager, tell us that Iverson's departure is in the best interest of the team to allow him time to 'deal with his family with this very serious issue.' But a cricket fan from England wouldn't have a hard time deciphering what's going on here. Iverson isn't what he use to be."
N'importe quoi

Doctor R vrais Montpellierains font vraies choses ! (Habitué)
"In a statement, Ed Stefanski, the Sixers' president/general manager, said: "At this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball."[...]
"Iverson has said that doctors in Atlanta, where the family lives, have been unable to determine exactly what is wrong with Messiah, the family's youngest child. Iverson told reporters that he was planning to bring his daughter to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia."[...]
"The things he's done for this organization as far as basketball players is tremendous," Green said. "He took this team to the Finals in 2001. To me just a great overall person, character and teammate. It's sad to see that he won't be able to finish the trip with us ... To me he's a person that shows tremendous heart and determination, especially for his size. Someone that was willing to go through trials and tribulations on and off the floor. At the same time, the reason why people love him was because how honest he was."
