With yet another time that a possible Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight has come and gone, the hope of most boxing fans for the mega-fight to take place is very low at the moment.
Don't fear, boxing fans, as the latest round of back-and-forth between the two fighters gives us more hope the fight will indeed eventually take place.
Here are the top five reasons that the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown will take place and finally give the world what they have been waiting for.
1. Money May Will Be Hungry After His 90-Day Jail Sentence
After Floyd Mayweather presumably takes care of business against Miguel Cotto on May 5, Money May will then turn his attention over to his scheduled June 1 turn-in date to begin his up-to-90-day jail sentence.
With little to do besides workout and read, Mayweather will have a lot of time to reflect on his life and career while in the Clark County Detention Center.
The added time away from his distractions in his life will help him find clarity to finally get the fight the world has been waiting to see over the last three years.
A 50/50 split that Mayweather wouldn't agree to in the latest round of talks between himself and Pacquiao will seem like a no-brainer for the undefeated welterweight champ.
2. Phone Conversation Was a Big Deal
Although it lasted around two minutes, the first time that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather actually spoke to each other will end up being a huge deal down the line in negotiations.
The two fighters finally broke the barrier of communication that was up the previous times the two fighters camps tried to negotiate a deal and will lead the two fighters themselves taking care of the majority of the deal-making process, and not the promoters.
3. Both Fighters Will Want to Retain Star Power
There is no doubting that both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are two of the biggest celebrities in all of sports, and fighting each other is key to keeping it that way.
The sports world will soon grow tired of both Pacquiao and Mayweather not fighting each other, instead settling for less exciting, less important bouts, eventually hurting their star power.
Both fighters have success outside of the ring, and if their star power is lessened due to them not fighting, these outside-the-ring deals will become less and less available.
Fighting each other will not only make them both very rich, but also keep their star power thriving for years to come after their fight.
4. Time Is Running out
As the years go by and Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather don't see each other in the ring, fan interest in the bout will lessen with each passing moment.
Although the two fighters are as hard-headed as they come, they will finally realize how big of a fight—and possible series of fights—that this is, and they will finally come to their senses, helping cement both fighters' legacies in the sport of boxing.
5. Money Talks
The biggest reason that the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather bout will take place is the big money on the line.
With each fighter standing to make around the $50-$100 million range, the two fighters will not see anywhere close to this ind of payday with any other fighter, ever.
With at least a two-fight series between the two fighters almost guaranteed once they finally do get a deal agreed upon, both fighters could make as much as most top fighters make in their career in just two fights.
