UFC president Dana White joined "Into The Night with Tony Bruno" to discuss UFC 100's impressive ratings, the possibility of a Brock Lesnar-Fedor Emelianenko match, and the desire of The Big Diesel/Witness/Twitter to step inside the octagon with the Coors Light-drinkin' champ. Sports Radio Interviews transcribes the gold:
"Shaq texts and Twitters me all the time saying he wants to fight Brock Lesnar. He's been training for 10 years; Shaq's probably the only dude in the NBA that can actually fight ... I told Shaq, I said listen, 'Win another NBA championship this year and then we'll talk next year.'"
White's right; Shaq's yearning to get in the cage is nothing new. He's been training with Jonathan Burke of Gracie's Gym for 10 years now, where he does the full gamut of MMA, boxing, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling. Cagewriter spoke with Burke in May who said that O'Neal "works his tail off" during drills and "has way more talent with this stuff than people would imagine." And again, he dunked on a freakin' shark!
It's a long shot to ever happen, but Shaq vs. Brock ... I would pay good money to see that.

NEW YORK -- The National Basketball Association today announced that the Salary Cap for the 2009-10 season will be $57.7 million. The tax level for the 2009-10 season has been set at $69.92 million. Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $69.92 million.
The 2008-09 Salary Cap was $58.68 million and the tax level was $71.15 million. Although league-wide revenue increased 2.5% this past season, the decrease in the Salary Cap and tax level for the 2009-10 season is the result of the formula used to set the Cap and tax under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
The new Salary Cap and tax level go into effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 8, when the league's "moratorium period" ends and teams can begin signing free agents and making trades.
The mid-level exception is $5.854 million for the 2009-10 season and the minimum team salary, which is set at 75% of the Salary Cap, is $43.275 million.

Ils ont prévu de resigner Marvin Williams cet été, qui est un pur SF. Et un très bon, qui mérite largement une place dans le 5.

Mike Bibby stays in Atlanta
The ridiculous turns continue, apparently.
The Hawks need a point guard. The Hawks need to keep Mike Bibby around, and keep Mike Bibby happy. The Hawks like Mike Bibby.
But handing him the average salary for three years? For a guy who isn't average, right now?
Seems lazy. Seems the easy way out. I went over and over this for a good chunk of the morning, and this still seems like a committee decision made with the costs all known. Something you do when you don't have a clear leader full of ideas. Mike Bibby. Bringin' him back, because everybody knows his name.
At this point, in 2009, he's OK. He's 31, 15 and five assists, league-worst defense. Six million a year may not seem like the end of the world, but you watch this guy drag up the court in 2010-11, knowing that he has a year and a half left. You make sense of this, even when he expires in 2012.
This is the easy way out. This is where you go when you are tired of thinking. It's not the worst re-sign in NBA history, but it is a cop out, a lazy move, an uninspired turn. You just bid against yourself to keep Mike Bibby around. That shouldn't be applauded.

Mouais, en disant ça, il se ferme quasiment lui-même la moindre petite porte au titre. On sait jamais, un prétendant au titre aurait pu le signer pour un petit contrat, et le faire jouer 25min par match comme energizer (c'est mieux que titulaire pas à son poste, en fait). Ca aurait pas été irrespectueux je pense, ni bête, quand tout le monde est sur le banc lu il arrive et défonce tout le monde.
Là en refusant de démarrer sur le banc il se limite aux petites équipes quasiment... |

Voilà qui restreint grandement le nombre de candidats à la venue d’Iverson. En tout cas, on peut déjà exclure les équipes qui auraient aimé en faire leur sixième homme…

Jordan jersey stolen from home of Spurs' Parker

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- An autographed Michael Jordan jersey has been stolen from the home of San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker.
The Bexar County sheriff's office says Parker's manager reported the jersey missing last month. It had been taken from a gym under construction at Parker's home.
Detectives found a listing for the jersey on Craigslist that was posted by Christopher James Carolan. The 22-year-old San Antonio man worked for the security company hired to protect the home.
Carolan had an outstanding warrant for burglary in a separate case. He was arrested and charged with burglary in the previous case and remained jailed Thursday. A theft warrant also was issued in the Parker case.
