Kevin Garnett didn't feel sentimental in returning to Minnesota on Wednesday night as a member of the Celtics.
“It’s easy to come in here and focus, because they don’t have any of my old teammates here now,” he said. “My history from here has passed. I did take a moment tonight to look around, but there are so many changes here that I can’t relate to, so I have no reason to.”
Garnett hopes the fans in Minnesota are demanding in their wishes to support a winning team.
“There was separation for me the moment I was traded (to the Celtics),” Garnett said. “The guys I had a special relationship with had moved on, and I never looked back. When a new page in my book turns, I try to embrace that.
“Minnesota’s home, or my second home, or a home for me, but I don’t think of anything right now but playing in Boston. But this was nice.” |

While the Boston Celtics are coming off a hot-shooting performance, players will always focus on defense.
With Kevin Garnett(notes) set to play at the Target Center for the second time as a visitor, the Celtics look to extend their unbeaten start when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.
Boston (5-0) is one of three remaining unbeaten teams along with Denver and Phoenix. The Celtics, though, have the NBA’s best scoring defense, holding opponents to 79.8 points per game.
Boston is coming off one of its best defensive efforts so far this season in a 105-74 victory at Philadelphia on Tuesday. The 76ers shot 36.3 percent and was 1 of 16 from 3-point range.
That helped make up for an off night by two of Boston’s Big Three. While Paul Pierce(notes) had a led the team with 21 points, Ray Allen(notes) scored five and Garnett went 1 of 7 from the floor to finish with three, his fewest since being held to two by Dallas as a rookie in 1996.
Garnett, the Wolves’ all-time leader in virtually every category over 12 seasons with the franchise, missed his initial return in February 2008 due to an abdominal strain, but scored a team-high 17 in Boston’s 95-78 victory on Nov. 21.
The Celtics, who are shooting 51.4 percent from the field to tie the Suns for the league lead, got a boost against the Sixers from Philadelphia native Rasheed Wallace(notes). He connected on six of the Celtics’ season-high 14 3-pointers and finished with 20 points.
Boston is averaging 101.4 points this in 2009-10, up a fraction from last season’s total. Through five games, the Celtics are holding opponents to 38.5 percent shooting, including 25.6 from 3-point range.
“It starts with defense for us,” Kendrick Perkins(notes) told the league’s official Web site. “We know we’re going to get our points. The points will be there. In the Eastern Conference, it’s about getting stops.”
Boston should have a well-rested starting lineup Wednesday. No starter played more than 31 minutes and Garnett was on the court for only 23 before being pulled with the game out of hand.
Boston has won five straight over Minnesota (1-3), which is coming off a 93-90 loss to the Clippers on Monday for its third straight defeat.
The Timberwolves were outscored 25-14 at the free-throw line while taking 16 fewer attempts. Los Angeles hit four free throws in the final 19.4 seconds to secure the win.
Al Jefferson(notes) scored 24 for the Timberwolves while Corey Brewer(notes) had 14, but missed a well-guarded 3-pointer at the buzzer.
“We haven’t yet gotten to the point where we know what play we’re going to run with a low-clock situation and no timeouts when you’ve got to get the ball up the floor,” first-year Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis said. “That’s my fault that we haven’t had the time to work on plays in that situation, but I like the fact that they got back in the ballgame and gave themselves a chance to win.”
Acquired from the Celtics in 2007 as part of the trade that sent Garnett to Boston, Jefferson has averaged 22.5 points the last two games—up from 10.5 in the first two.
He is coming off a torn ACL that limited him to 50 games last season, but his minutes have increased in each game so far and he logged nearly 35 against the Clippers. |

Time For Minny To Stop Revisiting KG Trade

We all know what happened in Boston. Kevin Garnett(notes) rode into town, Ray Allen(notes) welcomed him with his green body paint still wet all over and Paul Pierce(notes) got the lift he needed. Doc Rivers showed his true colors, united the team, made defense a priority and convinced some kid named Rondo to become the perfect supporting PG stud.
But what about back in the wilds in Minnesota, from where KG came running and never looked back? As Garnett returns to the Target Center tonight, now's as good as any to take stock of the trade. We all know about Al Jefferson(notes), and injuries aside, Big Al does a lot to compensate for the loss of the irreplaceable Ticket. As for everyone else, though, that's another story.

The issue for Wolves fans is what the club got in return. Of the five players who came from the Celtics, only Jefferson and Ryan Gomes(notes) are still with the team. One of the five, guard Gerald Green(notes), was traded to Houston before finishing his first season with the Wolves and is now out of the league. Guard Sebastian Telfair(notes) was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer, and forward-center Theo Ratliff(notes) was waived in the middle of the 2007-08 season.
Looking back, it's hard to tell exactly what the Wolves thought they were getting in addition to Jefferson (not yet a sure thing then, but darn close) and the perennially underrated Gomes. In fact, all wishful thinking about Gerald Green aside, it's not worth going into detail about why these other clowns don't matter. No one thought Minny would get back the real-talent equivalent of what they had with Garnett in his most prime of primes. Even if he's aging now, at the time, the Wolves were trading away that entire bundle of memories.
So now, the focus has shifted, from "was the Garnett deal fair?" to "wait and see with this next wave." The Wolves had to start over at some point. At least this way, they got Jefferson as a building block. Now, it's about Jefferson, along with Kevin Love(notes), Jonny Flynn(notes), Wayne Ellington(notes) and who knows, maybe even Ricky Rubio(notes). It's misleading to say that all of this came in the Garnett trade. But in a domino effect, it did come when the team decided to cut ties with its signature player and move on. This deal forced them to accept the inevitable, and provided a head start.
You still have to wonder, though, how this team might look if they had gone for someone other than Rubio. They might be in better shape this season, and the bottom line of the Wolves' situation is this: The more they move along, the less it matters if the Garnett deal was "fair." |

Je ne connais pas suffisament et avec précision l'attaque en triangle, mais je ne vois pas en quoi un PF (car Big Al est plus un PF qu'un C) dominant au scoring et aux rebonds, ne pourrait pas être la pierre angulaire d'un système comme celui-ci...

Il se murmurerait que Rambis songe a transférer Big Al des cette saison, celui-ci ne se fondant pas forcément bien dans le jeu en triangle que le coach commence a mettre en place.
En dehors de cette rumeur totalement con,un connaisseur aurait-il l'amabilité de m'expliquer les principes du fameux jeu en triangle?
En quoi Jefferson n'a pas le profil pour ce genre de systeme?

Ca depend le pick que vous aurez, en 2 de très intéressant(en partant du principe que vous ayez un haut choix) il n'y aura que Willie Warren. Un petit 2 à la Gordon mais plutôt complet des deux côtés du terrain.
A voir le pick que vous aurez mais pour l'instant, à moins d'avoir l'un des 3 premiers picks, un trade down est très envisageable aux yeux de la draft qui est principalement constitué de 3-4. |

Al Jefferson bientôt prêt à mener la meute

Al Jefferson n’a toujours pas complètement récupéré de sa blessure du genou de février dernier mais il est sur la bonne voie comme l’a prouvé le match de la nuit dernière face aux Phoenix Suns (défaite 120-112).
Dans son opposition avec Amare Stoudemiré (lui aussi à la recherche de son meilleur niveau), Big Al a montré des signes encourageants, finissant le match avec 21 points et 8 rebonds. Des stats proches de celles qu’il alignait l’année dernière avant de se blesser. Al est en tout cas impatient de revenir à son meilleur niveau, comme il l’explique dans le "Star Tribune" :
« Je veux reprendre là où j’en étais resté. Je veux être celui que je sais pouvoir être. Cela prendra un peu de temps. »
Kurt Rambis, son coach, semble enclin à lui donner le temps de jeu nécessaire pour qu’il retrouve toutes ses sensations.
« Je lui ai donné plus de minutes que ce que l’on m’avait conseillé mais ça allait. Il a fait bonne impression. »
Rambis a également tenu à féliciter ses hommes pour l’exécution de leur toute nouvelle attaque en triangle (quoi de plus normal pour un ancien assistant de Phil Jackson), soulignant notamment la façon « exceptionnelle » qu’a eu Ramon Sessions de l’organiser. Entre le transfuge de Milwaukee et le talentueux rookie Jonny Flynn, Al Jefferson devrait bénéficier de nombreux bons ballons à jouer.
En tous cas, on devrait en savoir rapidement plus sur son état de forme, les Wolves enchaînant deux matchs en deux jours pour la première fois de la saison, en commençant ce soir face aux Los Angeles Clippers.

ON n'aurait jamais eu les 4, le moindre changement a la draft influe sur toute ta saison, surtout avec Roy!
Mais pour te plomber encore un peu plus (te pends pas hein ), avec Roy on aurait encore KG.
Moi c'est surtout ca que je vois. |

J'ai passé des mois voire des années à crier ma colère et à étaler mon pessimisme, je ne vais pas en rajouter mais je crains qu'on n'ait commis une erreur de dimension historique qui nous vaille encore plusieurs années de médiocrité (entre 5 et 10 ).
Love, c'est le dernier vestige d'une ère cauchemardesque où on a multiplié les choix à la con.
Je ne pense pas que Mayo atteigne un jour le niveau de LeBron mais un tel joyau offensif (t'as vu son jumpshot ?), tu n'as pas le droit de le laisser filer. Une fois que les Kobe, Iverson and co se seront barrés, ce sera un Top 5 meilleur marqueur les doigts dans le nez.
T'as besoin de quoi pour rebâtir une équipe ? D'un bon axe extérieur-intérieur avec un gros scoreur dans le périmètre et un intérieur solide. On les avait…
Love t'apporte son DD, OK, mais c'est quoi l'avenir du duo Love-Al ? Ce ne sera jamais les Twin Towers… Ça force Jefferson à jouer dans un registre contre nature. Il s'en sort bien offensivement mais est-il capable de muer pour avoir un véritable impact défensif ? C'est plus facile dans ce sens-là (un attaquant doué qui se sacrifie plutôt qu'un joueur très fort en défense mais qui a un arsenal offensif limité). Maintenant, je trouve que Jefferson ne donne pas de grosses garanties depuis une saison…
On gardait Roy ou Mayo, on avait notre socle et on cherchait un pivot potable pour laisser Al en 4.
Et surtout, on a complètement dégarni notre ligne arrière. On a viré tous les mecs qui avaient un minimum de talent et on se retrouve à bricoler au poste 2. Quant à Flynn, on jugera sur la longueur mais dès le départ, je ne le sentais pas…
C'est quoi l'avenir de cette équipe, sérieux ? Portland nous a largués (et quand tu y réfléchis, il n'en fallait pas beaucoup pour être à leur place). Oklahoma City et Sacramento - si James Harden et Tyreke Evans explosent - vont nous dépasser lentement.
Et Rubio, je sens la grosse cagade… Il est clair que le mec n'a pas envie de venir à Sota. Faut pas attendre deux ans, faut voir tout de suite avec qui on peut discuter. Là, je sens qu'on va tranquillement attendre 2011 pour se retrouver comme des cons et faire une Scola…

“These guys are young,” said first-year coach Kurt Rambis, who returns to Los Angeles, where he was a Lakers assistant for 10 years. “Without experience or knowledge, they don’t know how to play against them (the Suns). They don’t understand all the nuances of playing a team like that. Late in the game, we gave ourselves a chance. But they made a couple of shots down the stretch.”
Against Phoenix, Gomes had 23 points and 15 rebounds while teammate Al Jefferson scored 21 and shot 9 of 23. Still working his way back from an Achilles’ injury, Jefferson played a season-high 33 minutes.
He averaged 24.0 points and 12.5 boards in the first two games against the Clippers last season before missing the April 7 matchup with a torn ACL.
Minnesota is shooting 41.7 percent from the field, including 28.1 percent from long distance.
The Clippers are 0-4 for the fifth time in their history.
