WALTHAM, Mass. -- Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen went through a full 75-minute practice session on Thursday, mostly half-court sets, and the team's trainers will be watching closely how his ailing right ankle responds.
Before practice, Allen offered optimism about his ability to practice, but coach Doc Rivers stressed that he'll keep a close eye on Allen's activity while trying to figure out the proper balance that will allow him to get back to game action.
"The last couple of days, I've been in a really good place, so I'm optimistic," Allen said. "If I'm sitting here (Friday) feeling good, that's a different story. I am optimistic about practicing today so that's definitely a great step for me moving forward."

There are times when the Celtics get in a zone. I'm not talking about zone defense, or getting in a zone shooting the ball, I'm talking about getting in a zone playing defense. When a shooter starts making shot after shot, the basket looks bigger and the game just sort of slows down. I think that is what must happen to the Celtics on defense sometimes.
They see the ball moving and instinctively rotate to the right spots. They see a ball handler make his move and anticipate his next 3 moves before he knows he'll make them. They funnel drives to help and blow up pick and rolls. And by the time the ball is hoisted desperately at the basket, the 24 second clock is buzzing and the opposing coach is pulling out any hair he might have left.
It isn't pretty unless you are a Celtics fan, and then it is the most beautiful thing in the world. We've all seen teams get on hot streaks shooting the ball and make big runs as a result. The Celtics somehow do it with defense. They might only score 7 points in a 5 minute stretch, but when you are shutting out the other team, that makes for a 7-0 run - which can be the difference between winning and losing in the playoffs.

Paul Pierce received the majority of the props for his virtuoso performance in Game 2 -- and justifiably so. He was terrific. But you also have to give enormous credit to KG, Pierce, Avery Bradley and two unlikely sorts, Mickael Pietrus and -- am I actually writing this? -- Marquis Daniels. The small-ball quintet was on the floor for the final 10:22 of Game 2 when the Celtics overtook the Hawks and stifled them. The Hawks saw a five-point lead turn into a nine-point deficit. The final was 87-80. Yup, there it is again. To paraphrase George Stephanopoulos, "It's the defense, stupid."
Compte-tenu de tout ce qui s'est passé ces dernières quarante-huit heures, on peut dire que Paul Pierce a sauvé la saison des Celtics.
En espérant qu'on n'ait plus à compter uniquement sur ses "HERO-TIME" d'ici la fin de ce round et que tout le roster participe désormais à l'effort offensif.
Quoi qu'il en soit, le Captain mérite son rang.

News out of Atlanta is that after his MRI, Josh Smith has been diagnosed with "jumper's knee." There's no structural damage, but rest is J-Smoove's only course of action right now.
Although he's a key factor to what Atlanta's been doing, KG and Bass have done a pretty good job with him in Games 1 and 2. He's grabbing his share of boards but save for the occasional run out, he's not scoring in the paint. The best interior defense seems to be giving him a breakaway dunk and letting his ego get the best of him. Half of his shots in the series so far have come outside of 16 feet where he's shooting 30%. Last night, he was 1-for-7 and didn't shoot a single free throw. Now, with the balky knee, he may be even less inclined to crash the key.
Flipper oui, mais ne pas y croire, c'est juste pas possible.
Comme tu le dis, ce sont les Celtics, les mêmes qui dorment pendant trois quart-temps et qui sont capables de retourner entièrement un match en un seul.
Justement ! Prenons feu !!! Ce sont les playoffs !
C'est sans doute la dernière fois qu'on pourra être à fond comme ça derrière le Big Three de Boston. Je dis : on s'en fout, c'est l'éclatche !!!
Pas d'enflammades, faut être honnête deux secondes, on flippait tous à la fin du 3ème QT ! Le 2-0 n'était pas loin, mais le 0-2 n'aurait pas été surprenant (pour ne pas dire mérité) non plus. Oui le chemin semble dégagé mais on parle des Celtics là, ceux qui vont se prendre une branlée à Toronto après avoir battu Miami et Atlanta en back2back...
Sinon j'ai beaucoup aimé ça : Before Game 2, Mike Gorman asked Avery how he felt after his first playoff game. His response was very Avery Bradley-esque: "Suddenly, everybody's playing as hard as I do." Somehow, I really doubt that.
Je viens de revoir la redif sur MCSet les Celtics ont vraiment sorti la grosse défense de la fin du 3ème jusqu'à la fin ... S'il continue à défendre comme ça et que Ray revient pour planter des 3 pts, ça va se finir en 4 1 cette histoire!
Non sérieusement, il faut que Smith joue et les battre avec la manière, battre Atlanta sans Smith c'est comme jouer Chicago sans Rose.
Sur Teague, j'ai bien aimé la solution Dooling. Sur ce match ou Rondo et Allen étaient absents, AB avait besoin de jus en attaque et ne pouvait pas se permette de se cramer en D.
En parlant de cramé, je n'en reviens pas que le Captain est tenu a ce rythme toute la rencontre. Si je ne m’abuse il finit même par jouer 4, vu que Quis jouait a la place de Bass.
Petite stat pour finir : 3/25 a 3 pts, ca me parait impossible que ca continue comme ca a la maison (surtout si Ray est là).
Il resterait quoi... Collins et Big Ivan ?

Je crois qu'en plus on peut dire que la solution sur les extérieurs est trouvée. Bradley et Dooling ont compris comment emmerder Teague et Pietrus (revenu du diable vauvert ) + Quis sont comme des morts de faim sur les shooters.

Josh Smith is probably the Hawks most important player and much of his effectiveness is directly tied to his amazing athleticism. So clearly losing him would be devastating to Atlanta and if he's limited physically that doesn't bode well for them either.

He's got a couple of days to rest before game 3. I'm even less of a Doctor than Doc Rivers, but if he's walking out of the arena I wouldn't rule him out of the series any time soon.

It appeared the knee had been bothering him for much of the fourth quarter, especially on a layup try at the 5:14 mark that he missed, but Smith may have aggravated whatever injury he had in a collision with Kevin Garnett just before he checked out. Television replays showed his knee giving a bit after Garnett bumped into him with 4:40 left, and 20 seconds later he was in the locker room and done for the night. This one isn't in Rose-Shumpert territory -- Smith walked off the court and left the arena under his own power -- but even a lesser injury would likely eliminate Smith for the rest of this series, and that in turn would effectively end any threat Atlanta posed to the Celtics.
The Celtics, meanwhile, are still waiting to see signs of encouragement from Ray Allen. We'll update you on that as information becomes available.
